Washington - Dozens of major American Internet sites, led by Wikipedia, are closing their pages protesting against the new American Internet law.
The reason for the protest is the law in the fight against online piracy, which is assessed as censorship of free opinion.
Support will also be provided by Google, which will not close its page today, but will put a link showing that it opposes the proposed law, and the opposition was also expressed by the world's largest software manufacturer Microsoft. The Pirate Party of Serbia also supports the Wikipedia protest.
The law originally provided that the U.S. Department of Justice, the courts, can order sites such as Google or Yahoo to delete links to foreign Internet sites that have some pirated content.
It is pointed out that the adoption of the law would lead to censorship because the Ministry of Justice could regulate cyberspace.
The law also provides for a ban on online downloads of movies, series, and music through foreign sites, which is now possible in America.
Therefore, if, for example, Warner Bros. found that a foreign site had an illegal copy of a new movie, it would ask the court to search sites, such as Google, remove the link to that site and suspend advertising for that site. site.
