Mozilla continues to develop its plans to introduce a version of the Firefox browser tailored for organizations whose IT departments manage their work through a central console.
This version of Firefox is called Extended Support Release (ESR) will be updated at a much slower pace than the regular version of the browser, with the desire to give IT departments enough time to properly test, validate and accept new ones. editions.
One Mozilla official, Jay Sullivan, says the ESR will be unveiled once a year, providing organizations with a version of Firefox that receives security enhancements but does not change the Web or Firefox Add-ons.
Mozilla is working closely with its Enterprise User Working Group on this project, so there has been strong support over the past few months for the Mozilla community’s initial proposal with strong assurances that the ESR meets those requirements.
IDC analyst Al Hilwa argues that Mozilla has made a great move by developing the Firefox ESR because large companies are each specific about the pace of software change used.
He emphasizes that it is possible to discuss the pros and cons of such IT strategies or whether organizations should accept a faster pace, but that one thing cannot be discussed and that is their desire to exercise control. In this case, Mozilla has embraced those desires and needs in the right way.
