You've probably come across the abbreviations SOPA and PIPA a lot lately, but you're wondering what they really mean.
Here I will briefly explain what is SOPA what is PIPA and which is more dangerous for us (our region).
SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) is the Internet Piracy Prevention Act. A law that expands the powers of U.S. law enforcement agencies and copyright holders to combat the unauthorized dissemination, counterfeiting, and trade of protected intellectual property over the Internet.
So, if someone copies a text, image, song, clip… from a site that is protected by a license, to their site or anywhere else, it will have great consequence.
This law is not so dangerous for us because if you copy content to your site from a licensed site, your site will be blocked only in the United States.
As for PIPA (Personal Information Protection Act), the story is similar only that the site that copied the content is deleted from the Internet!
Currently, large sites (and others) are protesting against the introduction of these laws. Among them are Mozilla, Google, Microsoft, Wikipedia... and many others. The latest information is that there were as many as 7,000 sites in the protest.
