At the AllThingsD conference held on June 1 in California, Microsoft went public for the first time with the user interface of the Windows 8 operating system, the release of which was announced for 2012.
The operating system for laptops and desktops, as well as tablets, was presented by Stephen Sinofsky, president of Windows and Windows Live at Microsoft on Wednesday night.
According to what could be seen during the brief introduction of the user interface, Microsoft Windows 8 will look drastically different from the Windows operating systems that preceded it.
Optimized for touch, Windows 8 is irresistibly reminiscent of the company's operating system interface on Windows Phone 7. A completely redesigned touch-sensitive interface, just like the keyboard, is designed for desktops and upcoming tablets. The new interface does not have the Start button that Windows users are used to and generally represents the biggest visual shift since Windows 95.
Sinofsky said the programs will be based on JavaScript and HTML5 web standards, making it easier for developers to write programs for Windows and compete for mobile operating systems.
Despite expectations that a tablet version of Windows 8 is planned for release this year, according to Sinofsky, this will not happen. "We intend to continue the practice of publishing a new Windows every two to three years. I can tell you it won't be this fall, "Sinfoski said when asked when Windows 8 could hit the market.
