Sculptris is a free program designed for the creation of digital sculptures and 3D modeling. Even though it is a very powerful program, with a rich set of features, Sculptris is not overly complicated to use, and with an easy-to-understand interface, and without a frightening amount of available commands, it seems to us that the authors managed to achieve a perfect balance between ease and the time and effort required to learn the program. At the same time, the program is still in the alpha phase, so we believe that future development will further improve the experience of working in Sculptris.
With mouse movements, you can very quickly and easily shape, cut, or modify "virtual clay". In practice, this is a pleasant way of working, which allows your 3D models to grow and develop organically, as ideas come to you.
The default setting automatically creates symmetry, so everything you shape on one side of the model is painted on the other, which can save a lot of time.
Sculptris will provide you with several virtual materials that you can work with, each with its own characteristics, and in addition to a wide range of tools for modeling, the program is rich in powerful options for painting, drawing, and creating textures, using which you can add finesse to models once created.
The use-value of a program like Sculptris largely depends on your affinities and capabilities. No, 3D modeling programs are certainly not a necessary part of the average user's software arsenal, but if the idea of digital creation sounds interesting to you, you will hardly find a simpler and cheaper way to enter that world.
