Here's what a VPN can't protect you from (but you need to use it)

The abbreviation " VPN " has slowly become established among average Internet users, which is certainly good, but the problem is that people have started to see VPN as the ultimate solution to all problems.

YouTube Vanced is down! These are alternatives

YouTube Vanced is down! These are alternatives

The popular replacement for the YouTube app - Vanced - will no longer be available for download. Namely, the authors (due to "legal reasons") had to stop the development of their application and announce that the download links will be unavailable soon.

Vanced will work normally on devices on which it is already installed. However, it will become obsolete over time and may no longer work if Google changes something, making copies of its YouTube app (which is actually Vanced) disabled.

Now, since (hopefully) most people don't want to pay a YouTube premium, I offer a few Vanced alternatives in this article.

Of course, all alternatives are free and open-source, which means that you are free to look at the source code if you are afraid that your phone will be "spied on" (spoiler alert: no).

1. NewPipe x SponsorBlock

1. NewPipe x SponsorBlock

This is the fork of the most popular Vanced alternative called "NewPipe". It differs in that it has support for SponsorBlock since the authors of the original NewPipe application did not want to introduce it

Of course, SponsorBlock is indispensable today as almost every YouTube clip is interrupted with sponsored messages. When these sponsored messages are merged with Google ads, nothing is left of the video.

What it offers:

  • adblocking
  • blocking sponsored messages (SponsorBlock)
  • it is light and fast
  • does not consume as much battery
  • has the ability to download clips
  • is not dependent on Google services
  • video player in the background
  • subscriptions
  • history
  • …and more

2. SkyTube

2. SkyTube

It is similar to the previous one but does not have the SponsorBlock option. However, it can block unwanted YouTube channels.

Some of the options:

  • adblocking
  • blocking unwanted channels and videos
  • does not depend on Google services
  • channel monitoring
  • comments
  • bookmarks
  • … And much more

3. LibreTube

3. LibreTube

Another open-source application but with slightly fewer options. It has a nice interface and is regularly updated, but it is in the Beta phase, which means that errors are possible

Some of the options:

  • adblocking
  • application for an account
  • subscriptions
  • search
  • Search suggestions
  • translations
  • … And much more

To click on the post or not?

Recently, Facebook has been flooded with " click bait " posts, and sometimes you don't know if there is something really useful behind that post or if it's just collecting clicks. There is a plugin that can partially reveal this to you. Nothing special, it's a Chrome extension called " Photo Zoom ". What does he actually do? Enlarges the image you hover over by loading the source address of the image . How can it help? Clickbait posts often "trick" users into clicking with an image (in addition to terrible headlines). They place those pictures so that only a part of them is visible on the Facebook wall and just enough to interest your potential. If you want to see the whole thing, you have to click on the link, which is their goal.
