UPDATE 14.03.2022. Vanced is off! You can find more information and alternatives here.
In short: Youtube Vanced is what the original Youtube app should be. So, this is a "repackaged" original application from which unnecessary things have been removed and some useful ones added.
You will probably like this app for two things at most:
- No commercials
- You can listen to background music
These are just some of the options available, and you can turn a lot more on and off. First of all, you have the Youtube Premium app, and in addition, you have additional options that only the Vanced version has.
Some more options:
- Black Theme (AMOLED)
- Picture-in-picture (watch video while using the phone)
- Control the automatic release of the next clip
- Listening to background music
- Change the codec
- Resolution depending on internet connection
- Hide all ads
- Hide info cards
- Set up the mini-player
- etc
Is it safe?
What sets this app apart from others is that you can use it with your Google account (with a few tweaks) and it's completely clean.
What do I mean by being clean?
Simple: there is no malicious code. You see, this app (and other types) is not available in the Google Play Store, so Google does not guarantee that it is safe. Any application installed outside the Play Store may contain malicious code.
Youtube Vanced is the only application of its kind that we can say with certainty that it is completely clean and safe because tests have been done on it that have confirmed this.
First, many developers unpacked this application and checked the code - it's clean. Then many (and I personally know some of them) followed for months the packages that the application sends and receives, and none was found that was sent outside of Google's servers.
What does it mean? This means that the application does not send your information to any third-party server, but only communicates with Google, just like the original Youtube application.
So, the application has not been changed in that regard, only the options have been changed and the ads have been removed. You can also test in person with a package capture program.
How to install it?
As I mentioned this app is not in the Play Store so you have to install it manually.
Install the Youtube Vanced app
To find the original .apk file, go to the official website of the application, or to the official XDA forum:
Download the Vanced Manager app from the official site to your phone, or to your computer and transfer it to your phone.
The .apk file you need to install now will be downloaded. If you don't know how to follow this guide. If your phone asks you something when you click on the .apk file, select "Allow from this source".
Launch Vanced Manager and you will see a welcome screen containing a few steps, go like this:
- Let’s get started
- Check the app you want (Youtube and/or Youtube Music)
- Ako nemate Root tapnite „nonroot“
Now you need to install the applications, first microG and then the others.
Tap "Install" next to the "microG" app. During the installation, the message "For your security" will probably appear, you need to tap "Settings" and enable "Allow from this source". Take a step back and tap Install. If you exit the Manager application, just re-enter it, you do not have to repeat the procedure.
Now tap "Install" next to the Youtube app. An options screen will appear, and you can choose what you want. Basically, everything is set up so you can tap "Install". The application will download and Install will appear again. Tap it and wait a bit. When it’s over that’s it!
You will now find new applications on your phone. If you want, you can delete this Manager application because it is not necessary, but it will be good for you to update. You can let it send you notifications when a new update appears for one of the applications you have installed. When an update appears, it will say "Update" instead of Uninstall.
Useful: in the latest version (15.33.34) they added the Sponsor block option. This service is otherwise available on computers through Chrome and Firefox add-ons. Basically, this option serves to automatically skip the parts of the clips in which some products are advertised (so these are not Youtube ads but additional content that is inserted into the clip itself).
Linking to a Google Account
The latest version of the application requires a microG package. This package also allows you to log in to your (or some temporary) Youtube account within the Vanced app.
When you install microG you will have an option icon. Once here, you will be able to sign in to your (or temporary) Google Account, which Vanced will use.
Interest: Vanced has an easter egg on his site, and the chance of him appearing is 0.069%. If you are interested in what it looks like, I was lucky, so I managed to take a picture.
