Twitter buys BackType

Twitter bought BackType, a company that specializes in analyzing Twitter streams for data and trends.

The terms of the agreement, disclosed in the BackType blog post, have not been disclosed.

BackType’s premier service informs users of this company’s services about how tweets about them have been promoted via Twitter and who the most influential people on Twitter are for a particular company or topic. After the purchase, this service will still be available for old users, but new users will not be able to sign up to use the services of this company. The move followed Twitter's purchase of the popular client app Tweetdeck in May.
