Serbia adopts ACTA agreement!

Serbia adopts ACTA agreement!

The controversial ACTA agreement, which is reportedly being adopted to protect copyright and stop piracy, appears to be adopted in Serbia as well.

Demonstrations against this agreement are scheduled at the same time around the world and in Europe. Experts warn that the agreement will endanger basic human rights and enable censorship on the Internet, as well as endanger all basic principles of freedom on which it is based today. Allegedly, behind the whole agreement is a powerful corporate lobby that actually wants to prevent the free exchange of information.

Vesna Rakić-Vodinelić, professor at the Faculty of Law "Union", stated that the legal methods contained in ACTA are aggressive and endanger the right to privacy, freedom of expression, and the right to treatment and fair decision-making.

The state may order the provider to urgently disclose to the holder of the intellectual property right information about the user who is alleged to have infringed the intellectual property right. It is sufficient for the right holder to claim that a certain user has violated his right. Also, this agreement imposes on the signatory countries the obligation of criminal-legal protection, which deviates from EU standards, and does not provide a fair trial

says Vodinelic and adds that the ACTA agreement does not guarantee the accused because temporary measures of confiscation and confiscation of his property can be imposed. , which are alleged to be the result of an infringement of intellectual property rights, without allowing the defendant to state his case.

At the same time, the European Commission asked the European Court of Justice for an opinion on whether this agreement is in line with freedom of expression and freedom of the Internet. Nine member states have already suspended the ratification of the agreement and postponed signing until further notice. At this moment, Serbia is allegedly planning to start the procedure of adopting the agreement!

Protest in Belgrade

A protest against Serbia's accession to this agreement will be organized on February 25 in the Republic Square in Belgrade.
