Here's what a VPN can't protect you from (but you need to use it)

The abbreviation " VPN " has slowly become established among average Internet users, which is certainly good, but the problem is that people have started to see VPN as the ultimate solution to all problems.

Protect your Facebook account to the maximum

Protect your Facebook account to the maximum

Although web browsers and antiviruses today protect us quite well from phishing, keyloggers, viruses, etc. many Facebook users are still facing hacked accounts.

Most often, these are the mistakes of the users themselves, because they are not careful or simply do not know how to protect themselves. That's why I decided to write this article where I will explain how to protect your email and Facebook account, as well as the computer itself.

How to protect your Email account?

I always recommend that users use Gmail for Facebook because it has an excellent option against unauthorized access to email, ie. there are many useful options, but this one is the best – 2-step verification.

What is 2-step verification?

Every time someone logs in to your email account, you receive a unique code on your mobile phone that you must enter in the field that appears on the screen after logging in, to log in successfully. Without that code, you can't log into your account. So, if someone knows the password of your email address, they won't be able to log in because they don't have that code. And if you receive an SMS with a code and you haven't tried to log in, it means that someone else has and it's time to change your password.

How to activate 2-step verification?

  • Log in to your email account and open the following link https://myaccount.google.com/signinoptions/two-step-verification/enroll-welcome
  • Now you will have to enter your password again.
  • When you enter it, you will be directed to a new page where you will see the option "Using 2-step verification"
  • Now follow the steps and in a few moments, you will activate this option. In the activation process, you will have to enter your phone number to which you will receive SMS messages with codes. Also, another number as a replacement if your phone is not there.

And that would be it. Each time you log in to your account, you will receive an SMS message with a code that you must enter to complete the login. Let me also mention that the code is valid for 30 days, so in the next 30 days from the moment of logging in, you will not receive the code when you log in from your computer (but it will if someone tries to log in from another).

How else to protect the Email account?

  • Choose stronger passwords. Try to mix characters, letters, and numbers, also use lowercase and uppercase letters but try to make it something you can remember easily.
  • Do not use the same password on multiple accounts. If you have a lot of accounts, it will be more difficult to remember all the passwords, so you can write them down somewhere, e.g. on the paper, you are going to hide. The biggest risk of someone finding your passwords is if you put them in a regular .txt file on your computer or if you write them down on your phone. The best option is to memorize them, but if you really can't, write them down in a safe place.

You can also use services like LastPass and similar.

Facebook account protection:

And Facebook introduced a 2-step verification option, which is great. Therefore, the same rules apply here: you log in, you receive an SMS with a code, you enter the code and you are logged in. And here the code is valid for 30 days or until the moment you clear the cache and cookies from the web browser.

You can also see from which locations you have logged into your account. If you notice a location where you have never been, it means that someone entered without authorization. And this is a sign that you should change your password as soon as possible and introduce the 2-step verification option.

How to activate the 2-step verification option on FB?

  • Open account settings and select the Tab "Mobile".
  • You will have the option to add your phone number, through which you will be able to send statuses by SMS, notice notifications, etc.
  • Follow the instructions for activation and in a few moments, you have activated your number.
  • Now select the "Security" tab and activate the third option "Login permission".

And that's it, the next time you log into your account, you'll receive an SMS with a code that you must enter in the field to complete the login.

How else to protect yourself on Facebook?

  • You should definitely be careful what kind of links you click on. Avoid the suspicious ones where you are "tricked" into clicking to see something amazing.
See this article on how to recognize infected links.
  • Forget about those sites where you have to enter your login information to get poker chips and the like.
  • Beware of fake email messages where they ask you to click on a link to see a picture in which you are tagged, or to activate your FB account before they deactivate it. Facebook NEVER sends such messages.
  • Always check the link address when you log in to Facebook. If that link is not www.facebook.com, do not log in.
  • Free chips, money, loans, etc. do not exist!
  • Programs for hacking Facebook do not exist! Do not download them.

How to protect your computer?

In addition to the antivirus, install some other programs such as Spybot S&D. This program finds all kinds of spambots, malware, tracking, and data collection cookies, keyloggers, and the like.

I also recommend reading the article "Spring Cleaning Windows".

Update your antivirus regularly. I can't say which antivirus is the best, each has its own pros and cons. The best ones are the paid ones, but if you don't have the money, you can also use the free versions. See the article where I compiled a list of 5 popular antivirus solutions.

Do not download "hacking" programs, most often you will be hacked. No program will give you gold coins and various points for FB games and games in general. There are a lot of "hacks" for CS 1.6 on the Internet that are full of viruses, even worse if you find them on Youtube clips.

And the most important part is YOU. If you surf the Internet smartly, you will be safer.
