Some time ago I wrote about an AI tool that automatically removes wallpaper from images. Wouldn't it be nice to have a similar tool that removes wallpaper from video clips and GIF animations? There is!

Unscreen is a free * online tool from the same company that automatically removes wallpaper from videos and GIF animations no matter what's in the background. In other words: you can remove the background without using a green screen (green screen).

When the tool is done removing the background, you will have the option to set something else as the background: color, image, video. If you don't want any of that, then you can choose "Transparent" and download the GIF without a background.

How well does it work?

They put a couple of examples on the site that is very well processed, but I failed to get such results.

Although, I noticed that the best results are given by recordings and animations that do not have much movement. Probably more complex actions make it harder for artificial intelligence to recognize and remove the background.

You also have the option to choose a GIF directly on their site. I tested with one (picture above) and I was very pleased with the result. They probably put GIF animations there that can be processed nicely.

Price?

* The tool is free but you are limited to the length of the result, you will have a watermark in the lower right corner, you will not be able to download the result in full resolution, and you can only download it in GIF format (even when processing a video clip).

If you buy the PRO version then you get the ability to download the results in video format, you do not have a watermark, the full length of the image, the full resolution, or the ability to use the API.

For now, there is no price for the PRO version, the only thing you can do is sign up for the waiting list. If you do that now, you will also get some bonus credits.
