So far, we have had the opportunity to see how artificial intelligence (AI) manipulates images and videos very well. One of the more interesting, for users, AI features is removing objects from images.
This is no longer news, nor is it that interesting (although it certainly is impressive), because AI can now remove moving objects from the image!
All you have to do is draw a rectangle around the moving object you want to remove and let the tool do it for you.
A user under the pseudonym "zllrunning" has placed the source code of this tool on his Github account. According to him, his tool relies on two training models called SiamMask and Deep Video Inpainting. One is used to track a moving object in the image, and the other to mask it.
As we can see from the examples, the tool is not perfect and there may be irregularities in the machined parts where the moving object was originally located. But hey, the tool is free and open-source!
Researchers from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore tested this algorithm in May this year, and you can see the result in the video below.
Adobe has also shown how their video processing tool - After Effects - removes objects from images.
Unlike After Effects, the tool that created "zllrunning" is free and open-source, which means that you can use it for any purpose and even modify the code itself.
