Windows 10 has hidden "Copy to" and "Move to" options in the right-click menu. In fact, these options exist but are hidden by default. However, with small changes to the Registry, you can enable these options.
Note: Windows Registry is a powerful tool and you need to be careful when using it. Doing something wrong can endanger the system. Therefore, first, back up everything (File > Export) and then make changes to it.
How to enable "Copy to"
Start the Registry by using the Win + R key combination to open "Run" and type "Regedit" (without quotes).
Paste this up the path:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
Right-click on "ContextMenuHandlers" and select "New > Key".
Give a name to key "Copy To" and double-click on it. Now in the right pane, double-click on the file named "Default".
Enter the following in the "Value data" field:
{C2FBB630-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}
After you do that, you can add another key similarly. Therefore, do not close the Regedit program.
How to enable "Move to"
While you are still in the Regedit program, right-click on "ContextMenuHandlers" again and select "New Key".
Now enter "Move to" for the name and double-click on it. In the right pane, double-click "Default" and enter:
{C2FBB631-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}
Save it and that's it! You don't have to restart the system for the changes to take effect, but if they don't, then you can.
One-click solution
If you are not familiar with the Regedit tool, you can download and run a .reg file that will do everything for you.
So, download THIS FILE (virustotal), unzip the archive, double click on the .reg file, confirm by clicking "Yes" and that's it.
The reg file is divided into "Copy to" and "Move to" so you can add one or both of these options, whichever suits you best.
How to use these options?
If you're not sure how to use these options, here's a quick guide:
- Right-click on a file or folder
- You will see two new options "Copy to folder" and "Move to folder"
- Click on one of them and a new window will open
- Now just select the folder to which you want to copy/move that file/folder
Some people are faster to copy/cut and paste classically, some are faster like this, and some may use a separate tool (example)… all in all, you also have this option so you can choose what is fastest and easiest for you.
