Today, we can hardly imagine working on a computer without the famous copy/paste option. I believe that you copy and paste some text at least once during the day.
Copying and pasting text in Windows is usually done with shortcuts ctrl + ci ctrl + v (see more useful shortcuts), and it's fast and efficient enough. But there is a faster way!
A free tool called "True X-Mouse Gizmo" was created to speed up the process of copying and pasting text.
How?
This tool copies text as soon as you highlight it!
All you have to do is select the text and it will be copied, and after that, you just need to click the dot where you would like to paste the text.
Copying process
Highlight the text as usual and True X-Mouse will automatically place it in the Clipboard. What you had before will be thrown away, so keep that in mind.
Good to know: Windows 10 has a built-in history of copied texts that you can access with the win + v shortcut.
Paste process
Now you can paste that text and you have two scenarios:
- you want to paste the text into a blank part of the document
- you want to paste text over other text.
True X-Mouse automates both cases.
Case 1
To paste the text into a blank part of a document you just need to click the mouse wheel and that's it.
Case 2
If you want to paste the text over the existing one, you need to mark the text you want to replace and click the wheel.
True X-Mouse is smart enough so it won’t copy the newly highlighted text if you’ve previously copied some.
If at some point this program does not do what you expected, you can always use ctrl + ci ctrl + v.
It may seem confusing, but once you get used to the program, it will be much easier, simpler, and faster to copy and paste the text.
Note: Because the middle click (wheel) is used to paste text, you will not be able to use it for other purposes.
Download and installation
Go to the official site and click the "Download" link. When the program is downloaded, move it to a folder from where it will run. This is a portable program which means it will not be installed anywhere.
