Here's what a VPN can't protect you from (but you need to use it)

The abbreviation " VPN " has slowly become established among average Internet users, which is certainly good, but the problem is that people have started to see VPN as the ultimate solution to all problems.

How to convert Latin / Cyrillic translation to UTF8?

How to convert Latin / Cyrillic translation to UTF8?

The problem with Latin and Cyrillic in the digital age is the compatibility of the software with those letters. Character encoding is generally a problem in the world with all non-English languages.

I had a problem with this when I wanted to cast from Plex to Chromecast. I couldn't change the Character encoding in the player so I had to in the translation itself.

If your favorite video player does not display well letters such as "š, đ, č, Nj, č…" then you have two options.

Option 1

Set the player to display Latin and Cyrillic letters correctly - see how.

If your player does not have an encoding option, then look at another option.

Option 2

Another option is to change the encoding of the translation itself. It is safest to convert it to UTF8 because it is a basis and every player is compatible with it.

Converting from another encoding to UTF8 cannot be done in the text editor itself as you may do more harm than good.

So I'll show you how to do it with one free program in just a few seconds.

Time required: 10 minutes.

Procedure for converting Latin and Cyrillic translations to UTF8

1. Download and install Subtitle Edit

The program is free and you can download it from this link. You can view the source code on the Github page.

2. Upload a translation to the program

You can drag the translation into the program window or click on "File> Open" (or just Open) and select the translation from your computer.

2. Upload a translation to the program

3. Change encoding to "UTF8"

In the upper right corner, you will see a drop-down menu called "Encoding".

It will probably be "1250: Central European" for Latin and "1251: Cyrillic" for Cyrillic translation.

You click on it and select "UTF8", it is the first on the list.

3. Change encoding to "UTF8"

4. Save it

And now all you have to do is click on "Save" and that's it! You can load the translation into any player and all the letters will be displayed correctly.

4. Save it

This program is otherwise very good for translating movies. There are many options, including synchronizing the translation with the image. So if your translation does not match the image, you can solve it with this program.
