Here's what a VPN can't protect you from (but you need to use it)

The abbreviation " VPN " has slowly become established among average Internet users, which is certainly good, but the problem is that people have started to see VPN as the ultimate solution to all problems.

New Google mobile internet saving application - Datally

I wrote an article on how to save internet traffic on an Android device and I suggested the Onavo Extend and Opera Max apps because they were the most popular back then. Meanwhile, Opera Max has been discontinued and Onavo has been completely redesigned and is now a VPN application with the option to save internet traffic. Their compression technology is probably now used by Facebook in its application because they bought Onavo - link. Google has decided to seize the opportunity and "push" with a new application called "Datally".

This application uses VPN to filter traffic, just like most others, and has one interesting option - blocking the Internet for background processes. What does that mean exactly? This means that, for example, Facebook will not consume megabytes if you have not started it, ie. if running in the background. Facebook will only be able to access the Internet when you start it manually. The same goes for any other application.

When you open an app and power-saving mode is enabled, Datally will save the internet even then, just like Opera Max did. You'll see savings information in the notifications panel.

If you connect your phone to a WiFi network, the power saving mode is paused, which is definitely a plus. In addition, the app will inform you about the surrounding WiFi networks so you can connect and save mobile internet. And if an application starts using large amounts of megabytes, you can block its access to the Internet with one click.

Of course, you also have consumption statistics, so you can see which application spends how much, how many megabytes you spent today, and how many in the previous week or month. You can also see the megabyte consumption for each application separately.

The only drawback, in my opinion, is that it must say that you are connected to a VPN, but Android has determined that, and if you have Rooted, you can remove it (various Xposed modules solve this). And I would also like to point out the fact that the application does not offer a more detailed display of consumption and savings for each application separately, but only basic information on the screen with all applications.

The Datally app is free to download globally so you can install it now:
