If you often go to bed at night with the phone, would you like to read an article from the Do You Know Tech Blog for the last time that day, I suggest you apply the advice from this text. Just like computer monitors, phone screens emit artificial blue light that bothers our eyes, especially at night when that screen is the only source of light.
If you've been following this blog for 6 years, you may remember (and probably won't) that I wrote an article about a Windows program that reduces that artificial blue. The name of the program is "F.lux" and if you haven't heard of it yet, read the article here. There you can also see graphs of how much the colors are shrinking, and why that blue is harmful at all if that interests you.
There is the same solution for the phone in the form of applications or phone settings. I will show you several ways so you choose the one that suits you best.
Android
If you have Android, then you belong to the group of happier people because you have more options. Android 7.0 Nougat has this option built-in, and if you have a lower version of the system then you can choose one of the free apps.
Integrated option
I can't tell you exactly where each phone is, but I can give you an idea. It is mostly found in the screen settings when you open the phone settings. The option is called "Blue light filter" in most cases. This is what it looks like with the Galaxy S7 phone with the Android 7 Nougat system:
As you can see you have options to adjust the intensity of the filter and when it will turn on (if you want it to turn on automatically). So you can set "from sunset to sunrise" or manually select a period.
You can add a quick (de) activation button in the quick action panel (when you drag notifications twice).
Applications
You have several options, and these are more popular and free applications: Blue Light Filter, sFilter, Twilight. F.lux also has its own application (link) but requires ROOT.
iOS
This option is integrated into iOS 9.3 and later versions called "Night Shift". You can easily access it: Settings> Display & Brightness> Night Shift.
And here you have several options:
- Intensity adjustment
- Automatic on / off: sunrise - sunset
- Turn on manually (filter stays on until dawn)
- Automatic on/off: from - to hours
You can manually turn this option on or off from the Control Center.
