Here's what a VPN can't protect you from (but you need to use it)

The abbreviation " VPN " has slowly become established among average Internet users, which is certainly good, but the problem is that people have started to see VPN as the ultimate solution to all problems.

How to use an Android device as a WiFi signal booster?

How to use an Android device as a WiFi signal booster?

If you have a weak WiFi signal at the other end of the house, a WiFi repeater would come in handy. If you don't have one, and you have an Android phone that you use poorly, you can use it for just that purpose.

WiFi repeater works, simply put, by receiving a WiFi signal, amplifying it, and transmitting it again. So, if we place a WiFi repeater somewhere where the WiFi signal from the router is weak, it will amplify it and spread it further. In this way, with a third device, we can get out of range of the WiFi signal emitted by the router and catch the one that re-transmits the WiFi repeater. The downside is that it reduces performance, but better anything than anything.

Ok, how to enable this option on an Android phone? There are two variants and the third one concerns the Galaxy S7 phone (but in that case the sentence from the first paragraph falls into the water: and you have an Android phone that you use poorly).

1. variant: root

There is an application that solves everything in a few steps, but it is mandatory to have a rooted device!

  1. Install fqrouter2 (how to install .apk file)
  2. Turn on WiFi on your phone and connect to the network you want to rebroadcast
  3. Launch the application and allow root access
  4. Go to the "Wifi Repeater" section, tap "Configure"
  5. Enter the correct WiFi network name for the SSID and the network password for the Password
  6. Save and turn on

It may not work. You have "Disable P2P" in the Config window, so try it. Sometimes you will have to turn off P2P yourself.

2. variation: no root with Bluetooth

This is, let's say, an artificial WiFi repeater because we actually send the internet from the phone (either mobile or WiFi) via Bluetooth. We know that BT has a range in the theory of up to 100 meters (in practice about 30), so we create a Bluetooth hotspot in that radius.

I suggest that you first read the article where I wrote about ways to share the Internet from Android devices, where you can find out the advantages and disadvantages of each of them.

  1. Connect to a WiFi network you want to share
  2. Go to phone options and find the "Tethering" section
  3. Find the "Bluetooth Tethering" option there and enable it
  4. Now just connect to some device via Bluetooth and you will have internet
Find the "Bluetooth Tethering" option there and enable it

3. variant: Galaxy S7 WiFi repeater

This is an option available in Galaxy S7 phones and is very easy to activate. Not to be confused, this option is integrated into the system itself and works by amplifying and re-broadcasting the WiFi signal of the network to which you are connected. So, like the purchased WiFi repeater.

  1. Connect to the WiFi network you want to share
  2. Go to settings > mobile hotspot and tethering > mobile hotspot
  3.  Now tap "More" in the upper right corner and then "WiFi sharing"
  4. Select "Enable" and close the notification.
  5. You will now see the "Mobile hotspot" screen again and turn on the option (the button is below the "Sea" I mentioned in the third step)
  6. The phone will now share the WiFi network you are connected to.

If you turn off WiFi on your Galaxy S7 and turn on mobile data, the phone will share that internet and not WiFi.

Note: this option is only available in the latest Samsung devices, so Galaxy S6 or A 2016 models do not have this option!

If you know of another way, write in the comments :)

If you don't have a surplus of Android devices, or you find all this complicated, you can buy WiFi Repeater quite cheaply.

SOPA and PIPA are slowly losing support, the protest yielded results

Controversial U.S. anti-piracy laws, known by the acronyms SOPA and PIPA lost the support of eight members of Congress after major protests by the Internet community. Support was denied, among others, by Marco Rubio of Florida, a rising star of the Republican Party, and his party colleague Roy Blunt of Missouri - who were among the signatories of the bills.

New Google mobile internet saving application - Datally

I wrote an article on how to save internet traffic on an Android device and I suggested the Onavo Extend and Opera Max apps because they were the most popular back then. Meanwhile, Opera Max has been discontinued and Onavo has been completely redesigned and is now a VPN application with the option to save internet traffic. Their compression technology is probably now used by Facebook in its application because they bought Onavo - link . Google has decided to seize the opportunity and "push" with a new application called " Datally ".

Twitter is celebrating its sixth birthday

Exactly six years ago, one of the founders of Twitter posted his first tweet - " just setting up my twttr ". Although the popularity of this service was modest in the first few years, today Twitter has over 500 million users who send tweets, and messages 140 characters long.

How to change IMEI number on Android phone?

IMEI is an abbreviation of "international mobile equipment identity" and each mobile phone should have a unique IMEI number. You cannot change this number with the operator, but you can temporarily change it on your device. It allows the operator to accurately identify your device and thus enable/disable network services. Also, you can use the possibility of changing the IMEI number, at least for a short time, if you know exactly what you want, but I leave those ideas to you because this is an educational article.

Google AI game recognizes and learns what you draw!

Artificial intelligence (AI) is quite popular nowadays and is being used more and more intensively. Google has, I can say, the most developed so far and is available to end-users (at least one part). We had a chance to see how it is integrated into the new Google Assistant that has replaced Google Now.
