Here's what a VPN can't protect you from (but you need to use it)

The abbreviation " VPN " has slowly become established among average Internet users, which is certainly good, but the problem is that people have started to see VPN as the ultimate solution to all problems.

GearBest shopping from Serbia - ordering, payment, customs

GearBest shopping from Serbia - ordering, payment, customs

GearBest is another Chinese site where you can find various products such as smart devices, electronics, parts, and accessories for computers, mobile phones, electrical materials, etc.

The company is headquartered in Shenzhen, China, and has more than 2,000 employees. Located in the heart of the world's largest manufacturing region, GearBest offers innovative products at extremely affordable prices often even before they hit the market.

However, what many are interested in is:

  • How to order something from Serbia
  • How to pay for it
  • How to arrive (customs, transport (etc)

1. Ordering

This is a very easy process. First, open gearbest.com and find the product you want to buy, in this article I will show an example of buying a  Raspberry Pi 2 B. I recommend that you pay attention to the comments, the number of stars, the price of delivery, and whether they are sent to Serbia.

Also, you can see if they have a warehouse in Europe, which is a better and faster solution for us in Serbia. Mostly a few more dollars are added to the price of the product.

Now, select the item variation if any. Some products are sold in different colors and sizes and are a must choose.

If there is no variation, or you have already chosen, it remains to click on "Add to cart".

If there is no variation, or you have already chosen, it remains to click on "Add to cart".

2. Payment

I've already written about how to shop from Chinese sites, so I'll just copy that part:

You have several options: MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and JCB. I have a MasterCard so I will shop like that.

You can open an account in dinars at a bank. You need an ATM card for that account. Pay the money into a bank account and they will take it from you.

You need to fill in all the fields you see:

  • Cardholder Name: name and surname of the card (account)
  • Card No: card number. That's the long number on the front. Not your account number.
  • Expiration Date: expiration date. It is somewhere at the bottom of the card. Eg: 12/18
  • Security Code: 3 security numbers are located on the back of the card. These are the last 3 numbers in a series of numbers below the black bar.

Also, fill in the delivery information. So, country, city, ZIP Code, name, surname.. and other things are required. When you have filled in everything, check the data again.

Tip: Don't keep payment details! As long as payment is secured, do not store data on their or any other site. Also, I advise you to keep only the amount of money you plan to spend on the account you use for payment, ie. a little more than that amount.

If you paid from a dinar account, you will be charged at the current exchange rate of the bank. Since you have chosen to pay in euros or dollars (because it is not in dinars), you go to the bank's website and see the exchange rate, calculate how many dinars it is, and you know how much it will cost you.

And on the GearBest site, they also recommend buying insurance for orders over  3300 Din. Insurance within GearBest is sufficient and will only provide an extra level of security. If the order is lost by the delivery company, the money and insurance will be refunded.

3. Customs and transport

Once you have ordered the package, it remains to be sent to you. Shipping is done mainly by Chinese mail if it is sent from a Chinese warehouse and arrives at your home address by mail, so the postman brings you a package, and you sign. But sometimes you have to pay extra.

3. Customs and transport

Additional costs are a special topic and a special article can be written about it, but in short: there are no rules. I wrote in great detail in another article, so look here: https://do-you-know-tech.blogspot.com/2014/09/how-to-buy-from-chinese-sites.html/#additional

GearBest explains 3 types of sending. The first way is shipping from a European warehouse located in the UK, and the order is sent by express delivery with a delivery time of 3 to 7 days. Products are shipped within 48 hours of purchase.

The next way is the standard level of delivery. Delivery time ranges from 10 to 30 days. There is a possibility to clear the goods if the package exceeds the value of 3300Din. For Serbia, GearBest selects the best possible delivery method, including the following companies: Netherland Post, Hungary Post, Belgium Mail, and others.

And the third way is expedited shipping via DHL Express with a delivery time of 4 to 7 days. All packages above 3300Din. subject to customs and costs may be incurred. Unfortunately, this method is quite expensive, but it offers the best safety and speed.

Much more about payment, delivery, customs, guarantees, delivery time, etc. can find it on the GearBest blog, and there is also an article in Serbian:  http://gearbestblog.com/sr/vodic-porudzbine-gearbest/

If the product does not arrive within the specified time, you can request a refund, resend, or something else in that value.

4. Tracking Shipments

You probably want to know where your package is right now. If they ship from China for free then there is little chance that you will follow the package outside of China. I wrote in detail about tracking shipments from Chinese sites, so take a look - https://do-you-know-tech.blogspot.com/2016/01/how-to-track-shipments-from-china.html

X96 Mini Android TV Box Review

I have already written an article about buying an Android TV Box for up to 30 euros, and now I am writing about one such device - the X96 Mini TV Box . There is not much to say about this device, its price is around 25 euros, it is an Android TV Box like any other, which means that it is powered by an Android system. Since I wrote about it in the previous article, I will not repeat myself. These cheaper TV Box devices differ mainly only in the chip, amount of RAM, and ROM memory. In the previous article, I wrote about what to pay attention to when choosing, and I chose this device that way.
