Ever wanted to change the partition or drive icon? The default icons are quite ok, but someone would still like to personalize their system as much as possible.
First, where to find icons? The easiest way is to just type the name of the icon into Google and download one. If you want to browse the gallery because you have nothing specific in mind, then I recommend these sites: icons8, iconfinder, freeicons.io, and iconarhive.
Instruction
Changing the partition icon (or any other drive) is a very simple process, but there is a tool that makes the process even easier - Drive Icon Changer.
When you download the tool, run it as an administrator and accept the installation of the .NET Framework package.
Now select the drive you want to change the icon and the icon you want to set. Click "Save".
A notification will appear stating that the icon has been successfully replaced, click "OK". After that, the program will ask you to restart the system and do it so that the changes are applied.
When the computer restarts, you will see a new icon. The icon is located in the root of that partition as a hidden file so you don't have to save it to the computer where you originally downloaded it.
This program actually shortens the process of manually changing the icon. When you assign an icon to a partition, the icon is copied to that partition and an Autorun.inf file is created. The contents of this file are as follows:
[autorun] ICON=Drive.ico
Of course, the name of the icon will be different. Basically, that file is in charge of keeping information about which icon should be set for that drive. That's why it's important not to delete the icon or that file.
You can also change the icon with USB sticks with this method.
