Facebook settings have changed a lot in the last couple of years. We got a few new options, a few sections were moved, and some were removed.
The changes mostly followed the scandalous news about the sale of personal data of the users of this social network. Facebook wanted to restore the trust of users, so it introduced new options and improved the existing ones regarding the privacy of user data.
One of the options that has been improved, and which I am very pleased about, is downloading the complete Facebook profile.
I wrote the instructions for this 8 years ago and since then the whole process has completely changed, so I decided to write a new article.
What information can you download?
You can download literally everything! So, these include statuses, pictures, videos, comments, likes and reactions, friends lists, Stories, followers, messages, groups, events, pages… etc.
You will see the complete list in the download process.
Instructions
- Log in to your Facebook account
- Open the settings - link
- Click on the second option "Download your information"
- You will now see a list of data that you can download. By default, everything will be checked, and you can click on "Deselect all" and manually mark one item at a time.
- Once you have done that, select at the top for which period you want to download the information. The default is "Everything".
- And choose a format. HTML is the default and I recommend leaving it.
- Click "Create File" and wait
- A message will appear stating that the request has been sent. Wait a minute. You will receive an email that the request has been submitted.
- When the file is ready, you will receive another email with a download link.
-
All your recent requests can be found on the "Available Copies" page.
Here you can see the status of the request.
-
When the file is available, download it by clicking on "Download". A
window for entering your Facebook password will appear - enter it.
Once you have downloaded it in HTML format, just double click on the index.html file to see all the data as a mini-site.
