Google presented a ton of interesting and useful news at the I / O conference this year as well. If you've watched the whole video (or live), you already know that Google has invested a lot in AI. This is to be expected, but, interestingly, they integrated the AI into the daily activities of the users. So the user can now use AI quite normally as if interacting with a real person.
I will briefly describe a few interesting things that Google presented here. At the end is a 14-minute video in which you can hear and see how it all works.
1. Complete sentences in Gmail
Currently available in the new Gmail as an experimental option. Basically, Gmail will offer you a part of the sentence based on what you started. You can complete this by simply pressing the "Tab" key.
2. Google Photos AI
This application will get AI that will be able to color black and white images, as well as highlight something in the image. So you can, for example, set the whole picture to be black and white and only one person to be in color. Or let the background be black and white and some person colored. This is just an add-on to the already available Google Lens option.
3. Google Now will have a real conversation for you!
You can order an assistant to schedule a haircut for you on Saturday between 10 and 13 o'clock. The assistant will call your salon and talk to the staff like a real person. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed how much Google has perfected it and how fluent and accurate the conversation is.
4. Continuous conversation with Google Now
Speaking of the assistant, the new update will bring a continuous conversation. You will no longer have to say "Ok, Google" every time you want to issue a command. It will be enough to start the assistant once, and later you can just continue talking. Of course, the assistant will distinguish your voice from the surrounding noise, so it will not be activated by accident.
5. Android P and AI
The new version of Android comes with artificial intelligence integrated into the system itself. It is there to take care of the daily activities of the users. For example: adjusting the brightness level of the screen, balancing the battery consumption, a suggestion for starting the next application…, etc.
6. ML Kit
API for developers who want to take advantage of the artificial intelligence that Google has. Developers can create applications that will, for example, recognize objects, and faces, respond to messages automatically… and so on.
7. AR navigation using Google Maps
Google Maps will use your phone's camera to show you where you're going. So, you create a path, point the camera somewhere around you, and the app will show you the way to go. Along the way, you will see some locations such as cafes, restaurants, government agencies… everything that would help you orient yourself.
