Messenger Lite is, as you might guess, a "lighter" version of the Messenger app for weaker devices. Facebook has made an effort, so it has improved this Lite version enough that we can use it without any problems instead of the standard application. However, the only option that was missing soon arrived here - video calls.
The lack of video calls in this application was the only obstacle for many users to switch to the Lite version of Messenger. Yes, this version is intended for weaker devices, but the classic Messenger "eats" the battery, memory, and CPU on the Galaxy S7 phone, which is a fairly new model. So I was thinking of switching to Lite as soon as they introduced video calls.
Facebook stated that they are introducing video calls here as well because they are quite popular with users, which is confirmed by the doubling of the number of calls in 2017 compared to 2016 via Messenger.
They also stated that the use of video calling in Lite is the same as in the original application, which means that it is enough to tap the camera icon in the upper right corner of the correspondence window. The user you are inviting must approve the video call and after doing so you can start a video call. You can also switch to video chat with voice by clicking on the camera icon at the bottom of the screen.
But, what they did not clarify is whether the quality of the video will be the same, better, or worse, that is. whether it will have some kind of special compression (it would be good to implement the "PiedPiper" compression algorithm here). This is most important since Lite is intended for those who have weaker devices and who are in areas with a weak mobile signal (slow internet).
