In this post, I am writing about the Swiftkey app for Android because I have been using it for quite some time and I am very satisfied. First of all, let me mention that I summarize my impressions based on the behavior of the keyboard when using the Serbian dictionary.
Swiftkey is a keyboard that has a lot of features, and the goal is to shorten typing time and hit whole words based on letters and sentences based on words. The keyboard also has a Flow option for our language, which I can say, even better recognizes words than the original Swype keyboard.
What sets this keyboard apart from the rest?
In my opinion, the only keyboard that perfectly predicts words and sentences for our dictionary. As I have been using it for a long time, I also entered a lot of my words that sync with my Google account (more on that later), I connected it with my Facebook account and messages from where my writing style "learns"! So the keyboard ends words and sentences for me just the way I would like it.
The Flow option is also great. All you have to do is "slide" your finger over the letter of a word and the keyboard will type that word. The original Swype keyboard doesn't always guess words properly, unlike the Swiftkey. It happens that she sometimes misses, but you correct her and she will hit next time.
Google Account synchronization was introduced recently and it's one of the best options they could introduce! So, you connect to a Google account and all your personal data is stored there and you can use it on multiple devices.
Another interesting option is tapping statistics. You can see how many meters you walked on that keyboard, how many words it corrected for you, how many sentences it completed, how much% you are more efficient at typing… There is even a keyboard map where you can see which keys and where you press them the most.
The keyboard is also available for tablets where you can choose the size of the keyboard. Among other things, you can divide it into two parts if you want to tap with your thumbs.
You can also install it on your iPhone and iPad
Examples of using Swiftkey
You want to type e.g. "Do you know tech" but you missed one letter. No problem, the keyboard will straighten after you tap the space bar. So you can miss one, two, three, four, and more letters and the keyboard will correct the word! Again, it all depends on how much she has "learned" so far. So, in the beginning, you may not see all the power of this keyboard, you have to use it for a while and allow it to "learn" your typing style.
Tips
- Connect to a Google Account
- connect to a Facebook account and allow it to "learn", also from SMS messages;
- use Flow. If you have never used it try it now. If you don’t like it, turn it off;
- change the Keyboard theme. There aren’t many but you can find something to your liking;
- Resize the keyboard to suit you
-
Buy it! Yes, it costs about $5, but these developers who made it deserve even more. There is also a free version so you can try it first.
Update [06/11/14] - the keyboard has become free!
