Notch is the biggest flaw of smartphones today - period. For the vast majority of users, this is the main reason why they do not buy a phone, as well as for me. But Samsung has found a solution.
True, Notch is only a transitional solution until companies find a way to place all the components on the front under the screen. Users demanded bigger and bigger screens, and smaller and smaller phones, so Notch was the only solution. Although it is present in many smartphones today, it is not generally accepted. Moreover, it is considered a flaw. Of course, the phone manufacturers told the story and tried to convince the users that Notch was ok, and many accepted that, and the others can't wait for that era to pass.
Samsung is one of the few companies that does not use Notch, and yet makes phones with a large Screen-to-body ratio. However, Samsung also failed to make a phone with a 100% StB ratio, but that will soon change. Here's why.
Samsung Display held the "2018 Samsung OLED Forum" in China on October 18 and presented interesting innovations. They talked about the various under-display options they are developing, including:
- FoD - Fingerprint on Display
- UPS - Under Panel Sensor
- HoD - Haptic on Display
- SoD - Sound on Display
- Under Screen Camera
Great news! Samsung established the direction of mobile phone design in 2019!

On October 18th, Samsung Display invited about 20 customers to hold the "2018 Samsung OLED Forum" at the Shenzhen Marriott Hotel in China. At the meeting, Samsung showed a PPT pic.twitter.com/sYu0ORTd6V
The camera below the screen is especially interesting, and apparently, it will work as follows: the screen above the camera becomes completely transparent when it is activated, otherwise it displays the image.
These are all technologies that Samsung is working on, and this is exactly the direction in which Samsung is going in terms of the phone design for next year. So we can expect Samsung phones very soon that will have maybe 100% screen coverage on the front of the phone. If that happens, Samsung will successfully skip the Notch era and hopefully end it.
