When we talk about smart devices, especially phones, we have too many choices. But we can divide customers into 2 big groups: those who buy the device because of the brand, and those who buy it because of the specifications.
Some people like to have all the devices from their favorite manufacturer, even if they take out a loan to buy what is missing in the collection. Is there the same (or better) device from another manufacturer with a 2x lower price? - Nevermind. On the other hand, these others are just looking to get the best device possible for as little money as possible, it doesn't matter who produces it.
As we come to an age where well-known brands are raising the prices of their products as much as they want, Xiaomi has emerged. Specifically, they got a little more publicity, especially when they entered the US market and introduced several cheap high-performance smartphones.
An example is the Mi series phones.
The Mi4 smartphone is available for around $ 370, which is 2x cheaper than phones from well-known brands that have similar specifications: 5-inch IPS screen, Quad-core 2.5 GHz processor, 13 MP camera (720p @ 120fps), 16 GB internal memory, and other functions such as GPS, FM, HDR, compass, barometer…
They never cease to surprise with their cheap devices, so, in addition to the Mi series of phones, Redmi notes, smart bracelets, headphones, etc., we get the Yi Action Cam - a cheaper competitor to GoPro.
This 16 MP camera can record in HD format with 60 FPS. In addition, it is waterproof to a depth of 40m. Unlike the GoPro, which has a 5Mpx camera and shoots at 30 FPS and costs $ 130, the Yi Action Cam will cost just $ 64.
Xiaomi is currently the 3rd largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, and they have also been named the most profitable Tech startup in the world. Its owner, Lei Yun, is also better known as "Chinese Steve Jobs". He and Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba, who is also the richest man in China, are the face of the Chinese incorporation.
Cheaper high-performance devices have gained in popularity. Xiaomi has made a good strategy and started building an entire ecosystem of devices that will be connected. Also, Xiaomi is a strong brand and is not a "let there" company that makes phones. I believe that more and more users will slowly turn to just such devices - quality, cheap, and with excellent specifications.
