Google has recently added several new features to its maps, including Offline maps and turn-by-turn navigation. It was these two options that were missing so that Google Maps that could be used as a standalone offline navigation app.
If you want to save the folder for offline use, you need to do the following:
Update the Google Maps app, launch it and type in the search box the place you want to save. This place will be positioned in the middle of the screen and you will see the name of that place at the bottom. Drag this box up to see the "Save folder for offline use" option. Then zoom in so that only the city stands on the screen and save. If you are too far away, the application will warn you that the storage area is too large.
If you want to start turn-by-turn navigation, just click on the icon in the lower right corner. You will see a path settings screen. When you have set everything up as you wish, select "Start Navigation".
